More obvious tourist attractions (Pomerania)
Let’s start with the Tri-City – the place where the Pomeranian adventure usually begins.
While in Gdansk, it is worth visiting especially:
- The Main Town Hall;
- St. Mary’s Basilica;
- Neptune’s Fountain;
- Crane Gate;
- Artus Court;
- Oliwa Park;
- Long Market;
- Museums (including the World War II Museum and the Amber Museum);
- European Solidarity Center;
- Beaches (especially Jelitkowo, Brzeźno and Sobieszewo).
Gdynia is a place where it is impossible to miss:
- Orlowski Cliff;
- Kępa Redłowska;
- Orlowo pier;
- Kamienna Góra;
- Kosciuszko Square;
- “Dar Pomorza” (a ship and museum in one).
Sopot, in turn, attracts with its beautiful wooden pier, which has become a landmark of this city. It is the longest pier on the Baltic Sea. While in Sopot, it is also certainly worth seeing the Crooked House and the Lighthouse.
Less obvious places to discover
As we’ve already mentioned, tourist attractions in the Pomeranian region extend far beyond the Tri-City.
Museum of Kashubian Ceramics in Chmielno
The Museum of Kashubian Ceramics is about a 45-minute drive from Pętkowice. Here you will have the opportunity to learn about traditional Kashubian ceramics and pottery. You will see with your own eyes the centuries-old tradition of Kashubian ceramic craftsmanship, passed down through ten generations.
The products created in this workshop are filled with history and tradition. They reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Kashubian region. What’s more, you can see the entire process of creating these beautiful items – from shaping the clay on the potter’s wheel to firing it in the kiln.
However, the Kashubian Ceramics Museum is not just a place to observe. It’s also an opportunity to try your own hand at creating pottery under the guidance of skilled artisans. They help bring visitors’ visions to life.
If you’d like to take home a piece of Kashubian heritage, the studio offers many traditional ceramic products for purchase.
Żarnowieckie Lake
This is a tranquil lake located about a 30-minute drive from Pętkowice. What’s special about it?
During the interwar period it was a border lake between Poland and Germany, but now it charms with its tranquil atmosphere.
The unique terrain of Wysoczyzna Żarnowiecka creates a picturesque landscape that is perfect for spending the day with family and friends. The reservoir covers an area of more than 14 hectares. The Piasnica River flows into it, which then flows into the Baltic Sea. It is an unusual sight.
Kashubian Landscape Park
In the immediate vicinity of Pętkowice is the Kashubian Landscape Park. This protected area in the heart of the Kashubian Lake District is a true paradise for nature lovers.
With its glacial lakes and meandering rivers, this park is a dream come true for those who love to explore beautiful waterways. One of the most remarkable is the “Radunska Circle” connecting 14 beautiful lakes.
The park’s forest complexes hide a wealth of unique vegetation and provide an excellent opportunity for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
And let’s not forget the unusual relief of the area. Here you can admire hills and valleys, densely crisscrossed by gutter lakes. Among the most picturesque areas are the Szymbarskie Hills with the highest hill in the Central European Lowlands – Wieżyca, which reaches a height of over 328 m above sea level. From its top you can admire the vast panorama of the area.
Jastrzębia Góra
Jastrzębski Klif is a true pearl of the Pomeranian coast, towering 33 meters above the Baltic Sea. It is the largest among the Polish Baltic cliffs, providing an amazing view. A blue hiking trail runs along its edge, ideal for long, relaxing walks.
Jastrzebia Gora is also home to the “Foxy Jar.” This mystical gorge hidden in the Seaside Landscape Park leads to the Baltic coast, reaching depths of up to 50 meters. It is a place where time seems to have stood still, surrounded by more than a century-old beech trees that create a unique atmosphere. Although the destructive action of the sea has shortened the gorge to 350 meters, its charm remains intact. Traversing it, one can feel peace and serenity.
A little farther away is Cape Rozewie. Here you will find a 12-hectare nature reserve and the Rozewie Lighthouse – the oldest on the coast.
Kashubian Eye in Gniewino
This observation tower sits 150 meters above sea level, and although it is 44 meters high itself, it is on a hill. Therefore, it provides an even wider perspective.
On a clear day you will even see the Baltic Sea from here. In addition, you will have the opportunity to admire Lake Zarnowieckie, forests, hills, the valley of the Piasnica River, a wind power farm, the ruins of a nuclear power plant that was never completed and the picturesque surroundings of Gniewino.
